Assessment
Assessment is an integral part of instruction, as it determines whether or not the goals of education are being met. Assessment affects decisions about student grades, placement, advancement, instructional needs, curriculum, and, in some cases, funding. Teachers across the grades at Emmaus CPS use a variety of assessment forms -both formal and informal, which includes checking student understanding prior to learning, during learning, and at the end of a teaching period.
In line with our explicit instruction practices, assessment tasks for students aim to directly relate to the learning intentions, explicitly outline what learners are required to do, provides challenge for the full range of learners but are also fair to all students (especially those with additional needs) and are appropriate to where learners are at that point in time.
Reporting
Student reports provide meaningful information for teachers, students and their parents/carers on students’ achievement and progress against clearly define standards; this includes what has been learned and how well, where improvement is needed, and what should be done next.
Reporting to parents at Emmaus takes place in both written and verbal forms. In ensuring that parents are well informed of student progress, it is an expectation that parents take the measures to be active in receiving feedback from teachers by:
- Attending scheduled meetings with the teacher(s) requesting the interview
- Setting up the SEQTAEngage app and access to view and download academic and additional reports (ie IEPs, Behaviour Support Plans, Progress Outlines, etc). New parents will be sent a ‘welcome email’ (SEQTAEngage) which gives instructions of how to set up access.
- Requesting to meet the class/specialist teachers any time throughout the year for updates on student progress is needed.
