Season of New Life
Djilba is a season of contrast in Dayton, with a mix of cool, clear days and lingering rain. It is known as a time of new life, when animals are born and plants begin to flower.
In our garden, Blueberry Lily and Sandpaper Fig signal this season of growth. Their flowers and developing fruits provide opportunities for students to observe life cycles and understand how plants and animals respond to seasonal change.
The Yarning Circle is a space to explore themes of growth, care, and new beginnings. Students might share stories about baby animals, observe new plant growth, or take part in planting activities. Djilba encourages curiosity and wonder about the natural world.
Across all six Noongar seasons, our Yarning Circle and Bush Tucker garden connect students to Country, culture, and sustainability. This project continues to grow as a living classroom—supporting hands-on learning, respect for First Nations knowledge, and a deeper understanding of our school community’s environment.
